Marlane Albers and her twin sister Marion were born in Hereford England to Ivy and Karl H Albers.
Ivy and Karl met at the end of World War 2 when Ivy was in the Land Army and Karl was a German prisoner of war in
Wales. Karl went on to become an architect and he and Ivy built their own house called Huxori at the Eywood Estate
Titley near Kington Herefordshire. Marlane
and Marion grew up in the pastoral countryside in the Midlands of England bordering Wales. Marlane became involved with horses at
an early age, being fortunate to have a pony at age seven and having the experience of riding ponies at the Downland
Stud in Wales, which is now famous for breeding the foundation stock of the Welsh section B pony. Marlane
enjoyed working with children as a nanny when she left high school and riding racehorses with her twin for trainer
Frank H Dale. Marlane then moved to live near Newmarket in the east of England to work for National Hunt
trainer David Morley ( M F D Morley ) as a "stable lad", an
English description of the job of exercising and looking
after thoroughbred race horses. Marlane had three horses in her care out of a group of about forty horses in training.
Marlane met her first husband, USA native Alan D Roberts in Bury St Edmunds, a town close to the air force
base at Mildenhall where Alan worked . They were married in 1974 when Marlane was twenty and moved to America,
to the Northern California town of Santa Rosa, so that Alan could attend Sonoma State University
and finish a Masters Degree in
Phsychology/ Counseling. Marlane worked at Skansen
Kennel near Sebastopol, another breeder of foundation stock, this time the Giant Schnauzer dog.
It was at the house that she lived in at Skansen Kennel that Marlane and her husband welcomed their first
child Heather born in 1978.
Marlane and her family moved back to England with the hope of staying permanently, but it did not
work out. Six months later the Roberts family found an apartment in Sebastopol California and then moved to a house
in nearby Santa Rosa. It was here that son Edward was born in 1983 . Marlane became a stay at home Mom and
continued her many interests: Becoming self sufficient by growing her own vegetables and keeping chickens. She also
continued her study of astrology, She painted a few pictures as she had been
encouraged to do as a child by her father and grandfather who were both artists.
In 1986 Marlane and her family moved to the isolated and scenic coastal community of Fort Bragg California.
It was here that they bought their first house.
Marlane was able to experience being with horses again when she bought the young appaloosa mare Sierra Gold Rush,
and then, with her daughter Heather, bought a young Arabian, M M Trespass a grandson of three
time National Champion Russian Arabian, Muscat. Marlane and Heather trained M M Trespass to become a blue ribbon
winner and champion at the local shows. Later they purchased a third horse, another Arabian full brother to Trespass
called Mastrexx who went to horse heaven in
January 2006 aged 20 after suffering
from an unexplained colic.
Marlane worked at several things in Fort Bragg, becoming a dog trainer, a Horsemanship Safety Association certified riding
instructor, taking care of senior citizens and running her own gardening business. She became a Master Gardener in 1999
at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens . She also painted pictures and sold several paintings of local scenery. In
1996 Marlane and her family bought a house just outside Fort Bragg with Five acres. Early in the year 2000 Alan
died unexpextedly after taking his own life.
Later in 2000 Marlane met Douglas Brenner and Douglas moved to Fort Bragg. Marlane's son Eddy J Roberts graduated
from High School and was accepted at the University of California Berkeley to begin a degree in Civil Engineering with an
additional major in Architecture. Marlane and Douglas moved to Berkeley leaving the house in Fort Bragg to be looked
after by caretakers.. After about two years Douglas was able to retire from his place of work, Lawrence
Berkeley Laboratory, and Marlane was very happy to move back to Fort Bragg with Douglas. Douglas and Marlane were
married at the Oakland Court House in November 2003.
Marlane now has the additional interest with Douglas of motor sport racing !
